How to get started? How does the process work?
Prior to attending our clinical exercise classes you must have an initial assessment with a physiotherapist in the Essendon clinic. This assessment forms the basis of your individually tailored program targeted at your goals, so that you can get the most out of our clinical exercise classes.
The initial assessment will involve taking a thorough history to understand any current conditions and your individual needs and goals. Following this session, your physio will devise an individualised program for you.
You will then have one to three '1 on 1' sessions with your physio, to be introduced to our studio and different studio equipment.
Once you are comfortable with your program, and your physio is satisfied with your progress, you will join a group class.
These classes will only have a maximum of 2 clients and the classes run for 30 mins. There will be a physiotherapist present at all times during the class.
The physiotherapist is there to take you through your individual program and modify as required, progressing as you improve, so that you get the most out of your sessions.
After 10 group sessions, you will have another 1 on 1 session to reassess your program in a more detailed fashion, as once you are improving, you need to keep progressing to get the most out of your sessions. At this time we will reassess your outcome measures and progress your program to ensure you are on track to meet your goals. This also keeps you compliant with private health insurance funds, so that you are eligible to claim your rebates.
What are the costs involved? Can I claim on private health insurance?
Yes, you can most definitely claim on your private health insurance. The item code for a group class is 560, the initial assessment is code 500 and any subsequent 1:1 sessions the code is 505. Please contact your private health insurer to make sure you are covered and find out how much your rebate will be.
As of 1st April 2019, the Australian government have removed private health rebates for Clinical Pilates classes that are run as a generic group with everyone doing the same exercises, within a gym or stand alone pilates studio. At our Essendon clinic, we offer individualised exercise treatment plans and assessments run by physiotherapists, so our exercise classes continue to attract a private health rebate, unlike other pilates classes that aren't run by physiotherapists in the Essendon area.
Generally, if you have 'Extras Cover', you should be covered. Please call 1300 369 930 to discuss the fee structure and the process of joining the clinical exercise classes.
