Dr Samantha May
SPECIALIST SPORTS & EXERCISE MEDICINE PHYSICIAN
Dr Samantha May is a Specialist Sport & Exercise Physician who is a member of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Medicine (ACSEP) and consults onsite at Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy's Essendon clinic, located within Essendon Sports Medicine.
Samantha is the Head Doctor for the Melbourne Vixens Netball Club at the Victorian Institute of Sport. She is also currently the Australian Diamonds Team Doctor, Head Doctor to the AFL Umpires, and consults for Essendon Football Club AFLW team, so you know you are in experienced hands when having a consultation with Samantha.
Samantha has a strong passion for treating all musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses, whether you have an injury or issue that is recreational, elite, or work related.
Samantha completed her Bachelor of Medicine, Surgery and Advanced Medical Science at The University of Melbourne in 2013.
Samantha has had many successful sports club placements, and is currently working with, or has worked with:
- Melbourne Vixens Super Netball
- Essendon Football Club AFLW
- Western Bulldogs AFLW
- Waverley Gymnastics
- Medical Advisor to AFLW and State League Umpires
- Cricket Australia Women’s A squad
- Athletics doctor during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018.
As part of the clinical services in this practice, Samantha is trained to make the appropriate diagnosis, and just as importantly, detect the causes or risk factors that lead to the development of the condition, to minimise the risk of recurrence.
Sam is able to assist you with all the appropriate investigations from blood tests to ECG’s, and x-rays to complex imaging, including rebateable MRI scans.
